Diamond Valley Fire Rescue has been awarded funding to provide its firefighters with new training and equipment.
The funding, courtesy of Alberta Health Services, was announced by the department on Jan. 18.
"We will be able to put four of our members through first aid and CPR instructor classes," said deputy Fire Chief Trevor Doublet. "It will give us the ability to provide first aid and CPR training in-house to our members.
"As well, we are looking to potentially, once everybody's trained, provide community courses to the residents of Diamond Valley and surrounding area."
The funding is additionally set to be used to purchase two defibrillators.
In light of the amalgamation of Black Diamond and Turner Valley, the fire department aims to keep the former towns' two stations well-equipped and equally funded.
"Part of our operations here is to standardize equipment across the two stations," said Doublet. "Now we're amalgamated into one department, so we'll be purchasing some medical kits to standardize medical supply layouts and equipment between all fire trucks."
