Community Futures Highwood will be hosting a Meet the Funders open house on Thursday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Corner Coworking, 210-23 Riverside Dr. The event will allow business owners and entrepreneurs to speak to representatives from all banks and credit unions in Okotoks on their funding options and opportunities. highwood.albertacf.com

The Friends of the Okotoks Public Library are hosting a book sale at the library from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4. Books, DVDs and audiobooks are 50¢ each, while mass market and children's paperbacks are five for $1. okotokslibrary.ca 

 

The Town of Okotoks’ Environmental Education Centre hosts Nature Friday every week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. where activities focus on a different theme. Rob Skeet brings his musical tribute to Elton John to the Rotary Performing Arts Centre on Friday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. This Vegas-style show featuring the Husky Tower Band takes the audience on a 50+ year musical journey of Elton John’s greatest hits. The Okotoks & District Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 2023 Business Celebration Gala on Friday, March 3 from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at Sprung Instant Structures in Aldersyde. Oscar-nominated short films will be screened at Okotoks Cinemas from March 3 to 5. These films are typically more difficult to find on the big screen. The festival will include an Animated Short Film Package, a Live Action Short Film Package and a Documentary Short Film Package. okotoks.ca

It’s hard to make time for art and culture when you’re chasing after a toddler, but the Okotoks Art Gallery has an opportunity that doesn’t require parents to choose. Toddle Down to the Art Gallery on Saturday, March 4 from 10 a.m. to noon allows children ages one to five to explore a number of activity and crafting stations. Storytime with Christina Hatton-Fearnley and her Baby Goats at the Okotoks Public Library on Friday, March 10 from 11 a.m. to noon. Hatton-Fearnley will be reading her new book, Girls can be Farmers Too!, and will be bringing baby goats. The drop-in program is free. Okotokslibrary.ca 

 

Children's Makerspace at the Okotoks Public Library allows kids to drop into the children’s area of the library and make a themed craft. Upcoming themes include: St. Patrick's Day (March 9 to 17), Easter (March 30 to April 8), Spring (April 10 to 17) and Mother’s Day Cards (May 4 to 13). The 2023 Career and Employment Expo will be held on Thursday, March 9 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Foothills Centennial Centre. The event brings employers, service providers and post-secondary institutions together to showcase services and opportunities available to residents in the Foothills region. okotoks.ca 

 

Come to the Okotoks Public Library on the second Thursday of each month for a free movie for adults. Till will be screened on Thursday, March 9 at 5:50 p.m. Till is a 2022 drama based on the true story of Mamie Till-Bradley, who pursued justice after the murder of her 14-year-old son in 1955. Dave Gunning and JP Cormier, two of Canada’s greatest roots singer-songwriters, will be in concert at the Rotary Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door. okotoks.ca  

 

Dewdney Players: One Act Plays will be staged at the Rotary Performing Arts Centre from March 23 to 25 and March 30 to April 1 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door (seniors are $15 in advance, $20 at the door). okotoks.ca  

 

A Repair Café will be held on Saturday, March 25 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Okotoks Recreation Centre. Volunteers will be on hand to fix a variety of items, including electronics, small appliances, toys, clothing and more. Food bank donations will be accepted. okotoks.ca  

 

The 2023 Alberta Summer Games are hosting a concert featuring the Travelling Mabels at the Foothills Centennial Centre on Saturday, April 1 at 7 p.m. Opening act will be Over the Moon. Tickets are $50 and available at Sobeys or online at 2023asg.com.  

 

Teachers Rule! exhibit is on view at the Okotoks Museum and Archives until June 30. The exhibit shares the trials and triumphs of some of the early teachers who taught in the Okotoks area as well as some fond and not-so-fond memories from their former students. okotoks.ca 

 

The Okotoks Art Gallery has a pair of exhibits on display until March 31. Laura Payne’s Hyperradial is an immersive time-based installation comprised of a mapped animated form projected over a painted surface. The Embodied Self by Sinéad Ludwig-Burgess showcases a series of mixed media sculptures that represent universal experiences relevant to the human condition. okotoks.ca 

 

The LEGO Club meets every Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. at the Okotoks Public Library. Kids aged six to 12 can enjoy playing with LEGO and meeting new friends in the free, drop-in activity. okotokslibrary.ca 

 

The Rotary Club of Okotoks meets on the first and third Wednesdays of every month at 6 p.m. at the Crystal Ridge Golf Club. okotoksrotary.ca 

 

The Indie Author Group meets every third Thursday at the Okotoks Public Library from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The group is a community of local authors whose goal is to encourage and support writers during their creative journey. An ELL (English Language Learning) class is held every Thursday from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. at the Okotoks Public Library. Learn vocabulary that will help you in everyday situations in classes facilitated by YMCA LINC instructor Deb Payne. Classes are free and drop-in. okotokslibrary.ca 

 

The Okotoks Chess Club meets every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Okotoks Public Library. The free club aims to improve chess play and maintains a friendly environment where learning takes priority over winning. Chess sets and clocks are available. All ages welcome, drop in.
