Firefighters were on scene at a house fire in Diamond Valley this morning.

Just before 11 a.m. Thursday, calls came in for a single-family home on fire in the Turner Valley area.

The Diamond Valley and Foothills fire departments were on scene alongside EMS and RCMP.

Smoke and flames were reported to be visible from the structure.

Deputy Fire Chief Gerry Rooke, from the Turner Valley station of the new Diamond Valley Fire Department, said that upon arrival responders found an incipient fire in the kitchen.

The fire was starting to build but had yet to spread throughout the house, he explained. Firefighters connected to water and successfully attacked the flames, he added.

Unfortunately, not every member of the household made it out.

"All the humans are okay but unfortunately we've had a loss of some of the family's pets," Rooke said, adding that one cat was rescued.

Residents of Diamond Valley are coming together in a show of support for the fire victim.

Keegan Donaldson posted to a community Facebook page Friday identifying his mom Rebecca as the victim.

"I am devastated by the news yesterday, my mother lost her home in a house fire," he wrote. "Along with that, she lost everything in the home and three animals did not make it out."

Residents flocked to the comments, offering clothes, furniture and even a place to stay.
