The photo of Queen Elizabeth II was draped in black and accompanied by a black flag in Okotoks Council Chambers Monday to pay respect to the late monarch.

Okotokians looking to send their condolences to the Royal Family are now able to do so at the municipal centre

A book of condolences for the late Queen Elizabeth II will be available for signing from Sept. 13-16 as well as Sept. 19, the day of Her Majesty's funeral. Visitors are invited to attend from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to sign the book.

This comes amid the 10-day mourning period which began following the death of the Queen on Sept. 8 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

Flags in Okotoks and around Foothills County have been lowered to half-mast for the time being as a sign of respect.

The Okotoks council meeting began Monday with a moment of silence as the Queen's portrait draped in black and a black flag stood in the background.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Canada would mark the monarch's funeral with a federal holiday next Monday.

However, as most workers are regulated by the provincial government, the details on whether it will be a paid day-off for Albertans have yet to be determined.
