A classic roadster is on the raffle block to help all Okotoks children play.

The Rotary Club of Okotoks is raffling a classic Studebaker to raise funds to for the shelter at the Riverside Inclusive Park.

“Right now we are putting up a shelter and its cost will be $97,000 and we have to raise some money towards it,” said Sandi Kennedy of the Okotoks Rotary Club.

The gazebo-style shelter is part of the club’s continued support of the inclusive park. The club previously helped with funding for some of the equipment at the park.

“The appeal of this park is so that all children, whether they are disabled or challenged in any way, can play with all other children,” Kennedy said. “Every child that goes to that park finds an interesting thing to play with because there is such a variety of items and things to do – it’s not just swings and slides.”

Of course, there are swings, including one that allows for a wheelchair to go on.

As well the surface at the playground is soft for protection but allows for wheelchairs to be pushed.

Kennedy said the shelter will provide shade. As well the tables in the shelter are wheelchair accessible.

Driving the Rotary’s fundraiser is the classic 1929 President’s Edition Studebaker which was provided by an anonymous donor.

Kennedy said the vehicle has been well-maintained, and the only significant changes or to items such as gas-lines to ensure the Studebaker is road worthy.

The cost of a raffle ticket is $20. The draw is Jan. 8.
