The American dollar just isn't worth what it used to be.

Okotoks RCMP has arrested a 31-year-old man with possession of counterfeit American money after a Jan. 1-18 investigation of phony money being used at the Aldersyde Petro Canada.

"They were $100 bills,” said Okotoks RCMP Sgt. Sukh Randhawa. "It was the texture of the $100 bills. The paper is a bit thicker. The clerks were able to figure out that it wasn't genuine."

Daniel Derek Morgan, 31, has been arrested and charged with eight counts of possession of counterfeit money, four counts of utter counterfeit money, one count of fraud and one count of fail to comply with probation order.

Morgan will appear in Okotoks provincial court on Feb. 1.
