Okotoks RCMP have laid charges against a Calgary man in connection with three robberies in Okotoks and High River in December and January.

On Jan. 12, Cody Lee Brown, 25, of Calgary was arrested and charged with three counts of robbery, two of which occurred in Okotoks and one in High River, said Sgt. Ian Shardlow, commander for the Okotoks RCMP detachment.

Brown is also charged with two counts of common nuisance, one in Okotoks and the other in High River.

Common nuisance is “endangering the life, safety or health of the public or causing physical injury to a person,” Shardlow said.

“That’s an additional offence to the robbery itself,” he added.

The arrest was made as a result of collaborative efforts between Calgary City Police and Okotoks RCMP, Shardlow said.

The first robbery took place Dec. 2 when a lone male entered the Okotoks Crystal Clean Car Wash and demanded money. An undisclosed sum of money was handed over and the suspect left the car wash.

On Jan. 8, a second robbery took place, allegedly by the same lone suspect, at the Payless Shoe Store in Okotoks.

“At the Payless Shoe Store, the suspect actually stole some other merchandise as well,” Shardlow said.

That same day, about 40 minutes later, a lone male entered Tower Cleaners in High River and demanded money again. He was given an undisclosed amount of money before leaving.

After a joint investigation between Calgary City Police and Okotoks RCMP, Calgary City Police arrested Brown on Jan. 12.

Brown is also charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of common nuisance in relation to several robberies still under investigation by Calgary City Police, Shardlow said.

In addition, he has been identified as a suspect in several other robberies still under investigation.

Brown is currently in police custody and he appeared in Okotoks Provincial Court on Jan. 18.

Shardlow said Okotoks RCMP is requesting the public’s assistance in continuing to investigate these and other local robberies.
