Bear sighted in Okotoks

The Town of Okotoks posted a notice on social media Sept. 15 of a black bear sighting along the north side of the Sheep River.

The Town of Okotoks posted a notice on social media Sept. 15 of a black bear sighting along the north side of the Sheep River.

It was spotted near Edgar Avenue before heading south toward the pathways along the river.

According to Okotoks RCMP members in the area, subsequent reports indicated it was walking travelling east out of town near North Railway Street (370 Avenue) along the north side of the river.

The Town has posted warning signage in the area and urged people to use caution or avoid area and always keep pets on leash. 

The statement said anyone under attack by a wild animal should call 9-1-1. Anyone who spots a bear should call Parks at 403-938-8958 and Report-A-Poacher at 1-800-642-3800 which is monitored 24/7.
