Awards recognize leaders in Okotoks community

Some of Okotoks’ brightest young leaders destined for big futures will get a chance to be recognized for their early accomplishments.

Nominations have opened for the 20th annual Leaders of Tomorrow and Heart of Okotoks awards honouring volunteers and youths who have made a difference in making the community a better place.

“We’re recognizing volunteers in our community who display high energy, commitment and leadership, also those who are promoting volunteering in the community,” said Sian Anderson, Okotoks FCSS and volunteer administrator,

The deadline for nominations is March 16. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on April 15.

Leaders of Tomorrow awards are handed out to local students in elementary, junior high and high school who display leadership and excel in a variety of fields, from sports, to arts to volunteering.

She said it’s important to recognize youth who display leadership qualities, particularly younger children, to help them grow and mature into responsible citizens.

“It is very important to recognize the youth in our community who are excelling at this early age in giving back and helping others around them as they develop leadership, character and commitment,” she said.

The Heart of Okotoks award is also handed out to a group or an individual over the age of 18 who show leadership through their volunteer work.

Nominations must include a written profile and letters of reference for the individual or group being nominated. Completed nomination forms must include permission from nominees.
