Parts of Foothills County could see up to 80 mm of rain while totals in Okotoks will be 15 to 25 mm this week, Environment Canada said.

A rainfall warning has been issued for parts of Foothills County east of Okotoks, with heavy rain expected tonight and tomorrow.

Environment Canada said Foothills County near Blackie could see 50 to 70 mm of rain, with up to 80 mm possible.

Rain will begin in the afternoon on May 6 and taper off on Wednesday, Environment Canada said.

The agency said that heavy downpours can cause flash floods and pooling on roads, and that localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas, the agency said.

Washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts are possible.

Okotoks is not in the warning area but could see 15 to 25 mm of rain by Wednesday.
