Foothills entertainment guide for the third weekend of November

All lit up

Head downtown for the most anticipated event of the year – Light Up Okotoks.

Enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides, carolers, craft markets, fireworks, late night shopping and plenty of food. The highlight of the night is a welcome address by Okotoks Mayor Bill Robertson at 6:45 p.m., followed by an appearance from Santa Claus and the lighting of the Christmas tree at the Olde Towne Plaza at 7 p.m.

Honouring The Outlaw

Tribute singer Robert Rowan is going all country for Waylon Jennings fans in Black Diamond this weekend. Robert Rowan and the Drinkers and Dreamers will spend an evening portraying “The Outlaw” in a tribute performance. Tickets cost $35 (cash only) and can be purchased at the Black Diamond Hotel & Bar and Okotoks Sobeys. For more information call 403-612-7046.

Getting into the Christmas Spirit

Buy one-of-kind Christmas gifts at the Spirit of Christmas Art Show and Sale. Close to 20 art gallery members have hand-crafted holiday-themed artwork, ornaments and jewelry priced under $200. Remember to donate winter accessories at the Tree of Warmth to support local charities.

All things ginger

Vote for your favourite gingerbread creation in the Okotoks Art Gallery’s Gingerbread Station. This year has eight entries in the children and adult categories and prizes will be awarded for first and second place in each. Voting will be open until Dec. 7.

Celebrating an old-fashioned Christmas

Learn how Okotoks’ first residents celebrated Christmas in the local museum’s old-fashioned Christmas exhibit. The rooms will be filled with the sights, sounds and memories of a heritage Christmas.

Freestyle on Fridays

Share your talent as a performing artist at Freestyle Fridays’ open mic event in Okotoks. Musicians, poets, singers, actors and various other talents ages 18 and older, whether new or experienced, are invited to attend and connect.
