Foothills entertainment guide for third weekend of October

PASTA AND ART

Join eight artists as they raise money for a great cause in Pasta With A Purpose. This annual spaghetti supper raises money for the Rowan House Emergency Shelter while showcasing the talent of local artist to the community. Tickets cost $30 and can be purchased on eventbrite.ca

BIG ROCK PLAYOFFS

Are you ready for some football?

Okotoks is the place to be for the Big Rock Football Conference semifinals, both taking place on Oct. 18.

The double-header kicks off with the Strathmore Spartans and Foothills Falcons clashing at 5 p.m. at Falcons field. In the other semifinal, the top-ranked Holy Trinity Academy Knights battle the Rundle College Cobras at HTA at 7:30 p.m.

 

SOUND OF MUSIC

Enjoy the soulful sounds of Shannon Gaye and the Kristian Alexandrov Trio as they kick off the On The Edge Concert Series season with a dynamic evening of music. SING ME A SONG

Learn some songwriting skills from country-style singers Jake Mathews, Lyndsay Butler and Ryan Fritz who will perform and share their expertise in Singers and Sweets for FASD. Proceeds from the songwriting round table and dessert auction support Foothills Fetal Alcohol Society, a non-profit registered charity that serves south-central Alberta. Tickets are $25. LOVING FIBRE ARTS

If you have a love of fibres, head to the Millarville Racetrack to see an array of spun, woven, felted, knitted and sewn items. The Sheep Creek Weavers Fibre Art Guild is hosting its annual sale where 60 of its 80 members will showcase and sell hundreds of fibre art creations.

GET WRITING

Have you always dreamed of writing? The library in Turner Valley is offering three writing workshops in its Out Loud Series.

Singer/songwriter Al Mehl will host a songwriting workshop at 9:30, award-winning cowboy poet Doris Daley will hold a poetry workshop at noon and author Bill Bunn hosts a story workshop at 2:30 p.m. To register for these free events contact the Sheep River Library at 403-933-3278.

A WALK IN THE PAST

Take a free-guided tour of the Salute to our Veterans Wall. Okotoks historian Kathy Coutts will talk about the veterans guard during this free event. Meet at the benches halfway up the hill.

BOLD BRASS

Revel in the beauty of brass instruments with the Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra’s concert Brilliant Brass, featuring five trumpet players, five French horn players, four trombone players, one tuba player and three percussionists.
