Diamond Dawgs

The Okotoks Dawgs will look to stay perfect this season.

Okotoks takes to the diamond against the Brooks Bombers for the third time, looking for its fourth home victory in as many games.

The WCBL team, sitting at 5-0 as the only undefeated squad remaining in the 11-team loop, is only home for the Friday clash this weekend with two road dates in Brooks to follow. First-pitch is 7:05 p.m. at Seaman Stadium.

Need for speed

The Rotary Club of Okotoks Soapbox Derby returns to its normal time-slot.

Don’t miss the fast-paced action and creative soapbox designs with the festivities commencing at 8:30 a.m. at Okotoks’ Crystal Ridge Drive.

The event is a fundraiser for the rotary club’s youth programs.

Cowboy up!

The Calgary Stampede Community Round-Up lassoes into the Okotoks area this weekend.

The Cavalry FC Regional Field House in Aldersyde will play host to the round-up event featuring a free pancake breakfast, live band, chuckwagons, square dancers, face painters, blacksmith demonstrations and a white hat ceremony, all from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

There will also be an artisan market, local vendors, bouncy castle and parent and tot toy area inside the field house along with food trucks in attendance.

Diamond of a day

The Diamond Valley Day and Parade is back for 2022 for the 54th annual event.

The parade begins at 10 a.m., following a pancake breakfast at Oilfields High School at 8 a.m., in Black Diamond.

Millennium Park in Turner Valley then hosts the Diamond Valley Day festivities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The family-friendly event will feature a dance party, talent show, artisan market, bounce houses, petting zoo, face painting, carnival games and a dunk tank.

Quintessential quilting

The Diamond Valley Quilters annual Rhubarb Quilt Show is back.

The show along with the Sheep Creek Arts Council bake sale will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is by donation only and the event is the quilters’ major fundraiser. Funds from the event are used to purchase supplies such as batting, fabric and thread for the group’s charity sewing initiatives.

The SCAC in Turner Valley will be the venue for the event.

Okotoks Pride

Together With Pride Street Festival will be the first large scale Okotoks Pride event since 2017 in the community.

The festival, in downtown Okotoks, will have an opening ceremony at 12 p.m. and painting of the crosswalk at Elizabeth Street and Elk Avenue, followed by more events including a street market with queer and local vendors, food trucks and a large stage setup up near the Okotoks Municipal Centre until 4 p.m.

A drag show will run from 6 to 8 p.m. on the main event stage.

Hang out with art

The Leighton Art Centre’s annual Clothesline Art Market will return to an in-person event this weekend after two years of virtual incarnations.

The 35th annual event will feature food trucks and live music as well as free tours of the Art Centre between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Market opens on June 4 at 10 a.m. and wraps up at 4 p.m. on June 5 with an online sale continuing over the duration of the month.
