Anne, concerts, Dawgs' tribute to Mayor Bill highlight the weekend

Anne is back

Dewdney Players presents the Canadian classic Anne of Green Gables this weekend for three performances at the Okotoks Olde Towne Square starting on Friday night. 

The play inspired by LM Montgomery's iconic novel based in Prince Edward Island, will be performed outside.

When: Friday, 7 p.m, Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m.

Where: Olde Towne Square, McArthur Stage

Classical performance

Soprano Cara McLeod and pianist Emilio De Mercato of the Alberta Symphony Orchestra are stopping in Okotoks as part of their Music in the Air tour, a series of outdoor recitals held in informal settings.

The Okotoks stop is taking place at an acreage off of Big Rock Trail on Friday evening. 

When: Friday, 6:30 p.m.

Cost: $25 per person recommended

 

Parking lot concert

Foothills Music Society Concert and Jazz Bands will are filling the Walmart parking lot on Saturday with sweet summertime music.

The FMS Concert Band, conducted by Van Lare, and the Jazz Band, conducted by Martin Kennedy, will also be joined by members of the Sherwood Community Band out of Calgary.

When: Saturday, 2 p.m.

Tribute to Mayor Bill

The Okotoks Dawgs is hosting a tribute to Mayor Bill Robertson on Saturday during the Okotoks Dawgs Black and the Edmonton Prospects at Seaman Stadium, As well as honouring the mayor, who loved Okotoks sports, it is a game between the two top teams in the Western Canadian Baseball League. 

When: Saturday, 7 p.m.

Foothills battle continues

The Battle of the Foothills chuckwagon races continue this weekend with three shows in High River.

The final night of qualifying is Friday, with the two semifinal heats going Saturday. The Dash for Cash final is on Sunday.

Vern Nolin sits in first-place going into the weekend, with three-time world champion Kurt Bensmiller in second. Blackie's Jordie Fike and Dayton Sutherland are in contention at fifth and ninth, respectively.
