BUSKERS ON STAGE

Sit back and enjoy the talent of some award-winning street performers during Alberta Culture Days.

The Best of the Buskersfest Concert features last season’s award winners in an intimate concert inside the old church.

ACTING UP

Talent is abundant in more than just music this weekend.

Check out what local actors have been up to in the Elizabeth Street Improv’s monthly Live in Studio… A Night of Comedy and Music event. The night begins with the Street Team and ends with the main act Squadball, featuring Okotoks singer/songwriter Kelsey Raine. For more details call Joseph at 587-707-9172.

WOMEN'S CONVENTION

Get empowered at the annual Okotoks Women’s Convention and Trade Fair.

This event features a self-defense workshop, more than 50 exhibits, live demonstrations, networking opportunities, presentations and a business-networking mixer.

When: Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

OFF TO WAR

Enjoy a free-guided tour of the Salute to our Veterans Wall led by historian Kathy Coutts.

Coutts will share stories of local veterans with the theme being Canada Enters the War. Meet at the benches halfway up Veterans Way hill. For more details call the Okotoks Museum and Archives at 403-938-8969.

SCENERY INSIDE AND OUT

Take in the beauty of the Foothills both outside and in.

The Most Beautiful Art Tour in Alberta features eight stops along the Cowboy Trail in conjunction with Alberta Culture Days.

Stop at Leighton Art Centre, Bluerock Gallery, Lineham House Galleries, Okotoks Art Gallery, Kristoferson Studio, Mady Thiel-Kopstein’s studio, Eversfield Ceramics and Firebrand Glass Studio throughout the weekend. For more details visit themostbeautifularttourinalberta.com

ELMA STREET STROLL

Take a stroll along Elma Street to see what the businesses and artists have to offer in the annual ARTSwalk event in conjunction with Alberta Culture Days. Expect chefs, painters, musicians and various displays of art in numerous forms throughout this day-long event along a quiet street in Okotoks.

BIG SCREEN FUN

Zoom on over to the local cinema to get a glimpse of what youth of the region are up to at a red carpet event.

The Okotoks Film Society is hosting its annual Zooom Film Festival where it will screen 14 films created by youth. Expect puppets, special effects, extensive sound editing and extensive lighting. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at okotoksfilmfestival.ca

EVENING OF MUSIC

World-travelling prairie balladeer Scott Cook is heading to Turner Valley for a performance of his folk/roots originals, and a couple of covers, in an intimate concert this weekend.

Tickets cost $25 in advance, $30 at the door and $10 for children ages six to 12. They can be purchased at Bluerock Gallery in Black Diamond or at beneaththearch.ca

EVERYTHING GARLIC

If you love garlic, head to Black Diamond for its annual Garlic Festival featuring garlic products, presentations on garlic uses and plenty of locally-grown garlic.

RUN WITH THE HERD

The Okotoks Jr. B Bisons get back on home-ice after a stellar opening weekend.

In Heritage Junior Hockey League action, Okotoks takes on the Sylvan Lake Wranglers, who formerly played out of Blackfalds, in a classic battle of top teams from the Southern and Northern Division.
