Métis Elders, dignitaries, and performers honoured for Louis Riel Day

Métis culture was celebrated at the Rotary Performing Arts Centre in Okotoks Thursday.

Nov. 16 was Louis Riel Day, falling within Métis Week, from Nov. 12-18.

Métis elder Ila Vivier was invited to speak, along with Amber Boyd, the district captain of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government (OMG) of the Métis Nation within Alberta Rocky View District #4.

Guests were treated to and invited to join in a traditional jig by Dan Boudreau and his son Jayson, with Billy Joseph playing fiddle.

In 2022, the Town of Okotoks proclaimed Nov. 16 as Louis Riel Day and Métis Week in the week surrounding it, flying the Métis flag at the Municipal Centre for the first time on Nov. 14, 2022.
