Okotoks musicians roar at 40th annual Highwood Lions Music Festival concert

Okotoks a major player in annual celebration of musical talent in the Foothills

Okotoks was in fine voice at a concert celebrating four decades of sweet sounds in the Foothills.

The 40th anniversary Highwood Lions Music Festival Alumni concert was Oct. 12 at the High River United Church with seven performances from artists with roots in Okotoks and surrounding area.

A lot has changed since the festival was started in 1979.

Okotoks now has the most participants in the festival which is one of the largest in southern Alberta.

Some of the performances at the celebration included a spine-tingling operatic aria by Abby Curzon of Chacun le Sait from La Fille du Regiment.

Curzon is a 2007 grad of Holy Trinity Academy, has performed with the Calgary Opera. She is presently working at Dr. Morris Gibson School.

The Priddis Strings, Rachel MacDonald on cello and sister Melissa on violin, also wowed the audience with their rendition of The Passacaglia.

The future was also on stage. Kade Motycka, a Grade 11 student at HTA, had his fingers flying while playing The Blue Knight on the classical guitar.

Motycka is a student of Okotoks' Terry Siqueira who has had countless students perform at the Highwood festival.
