Honens Open Air, a free, family-friendly concert, returns to George Lane Memorial Park in High River on Sunday, Sept. 10.

High River Gift of Music is collaborating with Calgary’s Honens Festival to bring its ever-popular Honens Open Air to High River once again.

Set for Sunday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m., the free, family-friendly musical extravaganza in George Lane Memorial Park will feature a program ranging from blazingly virtuosic Rachmaninov to charming salon pieces by Elgar and Albeniz.

The concert will feature Ukrainian pianist Illia Ovcharenko, winner of the 2022 Honens International Piano Competition, who’s been praised as “technically flawless and impeccably musical” (International Piano), and Jon Kimura Parker, known for his charisma, enthusiasm and dynamic performances.

Also on stage will be violinist Donovan Seidle and the Ladom Ensemble, which combines piano, cello, accordion and percussion in a unique blend of acoustic chamber and world music that is passionate, sophisticated and wild.

Honens Open Air kicks off High River Gift of Music’s A Season to Celebrate, 2023-2024. Season passes for the new concert series are now available at highrivergiftofmusic.com.

The High River Gift of Music Society is a non-profit organization that has brought excellence in music to High River since 2009. Its aim is to open the doors to the world of music through education, outreach activities and incredible musical performance.
