Celtic folk duo and sisters Cassie and Maggie are playing the RPAC on Feb. 9.

Halifax folk duo and sisters Cassie and Maggie will be performing at the Rotary Performing Arts Centre tonight.

The two will bring a mix of guitar, fiddle and piano to the stage, boasting a repertoire of lyrical arrangements in both English and Gaelic.

“We sort of stretch between traditional sort of songs people might be familiar with, our own music, and interpretations of older kind of ancient music we’ve plucked from obscurity and brought back to life,” says Cassie MacDonald.

Coming from a family replete with musicians, their repertoire was nurtured from the get-go.

“We’ve been very lucky we have this amazing wealth of tradition supporting what we do, but we have the opportunity to make it accessible to people and bring a fresh approach, which has been very fun over the years,” MacDonald says.

“We grew up in a really traditional music upbringing; our grandfather was an amazing fiddle player and our cousins are all musicians as well, and we’re the youngest of all of our cousins, so by the time we came along everything had been done, in a way.

The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door. Tickets and more information can be found at okotoksculture.ca.
