Foothills Philharmonic presents Harvest Serenade on Saturday

Foothills Philharmonic Society celebrating 10th anniversary with Oct. 28 concert at Okotoks Alliance Church

The Foothills Philharmonic Society's chorus and orchestra will perform their autumnal concert, Harvest Serenade, this Saturday evening.

“It’s very exciting. We’re going into our 10th year,” said Tim Korthuis, director and co-founder of the society.

As it celebrates the milestone, its chamber chorus and orchestra will perform on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Okotoks Alliance Church.

“The general feel of the concert is celebration, excitement and making gorgeous music for the season,” Korthuis said. “It’s a concert about everything the FPO is about.

“One of the pieces (the orchestra) will be doing is Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2, which is an incredible piece with a trumpet part played by one of our FPO trumpet players.”

Also on the docket for the concert are Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Four Winds.

“It involves a quartet, so it’s like an orchestra that’s accompanying a quartet of oboe, clarinet, bassoon and French horn,” Korthuis said. “These are all just great exciting composers, and it’s really exciting concert as well for the Chamber Choir."

Following the performance, the chorus and orchestra perform Dec. 15-16 and in the new year, concerts will be held in March and May.

“We have our chorus and orchestra performing together in December for our Christmas concert, Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, and a couple other pieces as well with the orchestra and choir,” Korthuis said.
