A Calgary singer/songwriter is bringing his broad love for music to Diamond Valley.

Cole Malone plays the Black Diamond Hotel & Bar on Saturday, Oct. 28, where the recording artist will bring his deep repertoire, including his latest single Day after Day, which hit 97 in the charts.

“One of the biggest things for me is I just love to perform,” Malone said.

“So over the years with all of my performances I’ve done, I just put together set lists that a lot of people like and enjoy, and try to hit as many genres as we comfortably can, that’s the point of music for me.”

As with anyone, his tastes and influences have changed over the years, only adding to his repertoire.

“Growing up playing music started very, very young, I was influenced by a lot of different genres,” Malone said.

“Early influences, Garth Brooks, George Straight, that kind of thing, but I really started to get to get into music around the time when Nirvana was in the end of their time, and growing up I was more into a rock style.

“Then as I got older and my voice lowered, my songwriting went more country, and I started to get back into that style, and one of my main influences for a long time has been Eric Church.”

On the set list, he added, will be country old and new, as well as some ‘Tragically Hip’ style of rock, but the audience can expect a good mixture of two-stepping and slower country to slow it down a bit.

Regardless of font, the journey is simply a labour of love for Malone, and he likes to share that with his audience.

"For me, when I get a song or hear a song whether I wrote it, or somebody else wrote it and it connects with me, I try to put that in the set list and go from there,” Malone said.

"There’s just something always in me, I’ve just always gravitated towards it, singing, performing and guitar playing, it’s just been my friend and my companion along the way."

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the dancing kicks off at 7 p.m.

Tickets are available at the Black Diamond Bar, at Okotoks Sobeys or by calling organizer Adele Mundell at 403-612-7046.
