DeWinton artist Angie Denovan will be showing some of her new abstract work in the ArtWorks! art sale at the DeWinton Community Hall on Oct. 7-10.

DeWinton's vibrant arts community is bringing back its art sale.

The long-running annual ArtWorks! art sale is slated to return Oct. 7-10 at the DeWinton Community Hall.

Making a return with a new abstract style is DeWinton artist Angie Denovan, who had been one of the original members of the show dating back to 2010.

Having taken a hiatus due to a paint allergy, she found the new style allowed her to spend more time with her work.

“I started painting when I was two, because I had a health ailment and it was all I was allowed to do,” she said.

“So I’ve been painting all my life, and then had to quit because I couldn't breathe.”

The show will feature more than paint on canvas, she added.

“It’s been interesting, we all belong to various groups, like there’s quilters and weavers and that sort of thing,” Denovan said.

Renowned nature artist David Kitler has been another mainstay in the show, and also enjoys the variety it brings.

“We try to get different kinds of artists in there, not just painters, there’s fabrics, metal,” Kitler said.

Living just a stone's throw from the hall, he also looks forward to the opportunity of getting to know more of his neighbours, musing about the time it shared the hall with a polling station.

“One year they had to come to the show because it was the election,” Kitler said.

Another positive side-effect for Kitler is letting visitors discover the tiny hamlet, often overlooked or completely unknown to city-dwellers visiting the Foothills and County-dwellers visiting the city.

“Whenever I met anybody in the show I didn’t know, I’d ask them how they found out about the show,” Kitler said. “A lot of them said, ‘I live in Mahogany,’ or ‘I live in Okotoks’ and the number of times I heard, ‘I never knew there was a DeWinton here.’

“It kind of struck me, because that drags people off the main thoroughfare, which brought people through DeWinton.”

The event runs 2 to 8 p.m. Oct. 7, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 8-9 , and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 10.
