Traffic circles are a better option

Dear Editor, I note that we are about to get yet another set of traffic lights at the bottom of the hill on 32 Street.

Dear Editor,

I note that we are about to get yet another set of traffic lights at the bottom of the hill on 32 Street. We seem committed to managing our traffic with lights even though much of the rest of the world has discovered that traffic circles are much more efficient, cheaper and environmentally much cleaner (in that they avoid long waits at empty intersections). During a recent trip through the US I was interested to see how many jurisdictions down there are putting in traffic circles to handle the type of intersection that we have where North Railway Street meets 32 Street. This is an intersection where traffic volumes vary greatly and where a circle makes perfect sense. As a town that prides itself on looking at new and innovative ways to manage our affairs, I would urge the powers-that-be to seriously consider abandoning their light fixation and doing something different.
