Town should allow food trucks

Dear Editor, The banning of food trucks and limiting their presence to “special events” is incredibly short-sighted by the Town of Okotoks.

Dear Editor,

The banning of food trucks and limiting their presence to “special events” is incredibly short-sighted by the Town of Okotoks. Who are they protecting and who or what determines a “special event by invite only”? I though the mandate of the Town was to foster and promote economic development.

Instead the Town has other “strategic priorities” to deal with? One wonders what that might be? Perhaps the flood of applications to develop cannabis retail shops? Look around the Town right now. There is an awful lot of vacant office and retail space available.

Chasing away business is not in the Town’s best interest right now.

Food trucks really only have the ability to operate during months where the weather is more favourable anyway.

Personally I believe they enhance the community and add a little pizazz to outdoor events, warm summer nights and give consumers a nice casual choice. This needs to move up the priority ladder. Summer is short!
