Cimarron Boulevard concerns not being heard

Dear Editor,

The residents on Cimarron Boulevard have been quietly stewing amongst themselves for years, wondering and hoping when the Town will finally realize the urgent need to ‘fix’ Cimarron Boulevard.

I think I speak for more than myself when I say enough is enough.

We are well past studies and community involvement and it is time to implement some real change before someone else is killed on this street.

The reduction to the 40km/h speed limit and installation of traffic lights and lit pedestrian crossings was a welcome addition and no doubt appeased a number of residents.

Unfortunately, that is no
longer enough and we turn once again to the Town and ask, no we demand, that something more is done.

Putting it simply: it is not safe and residents are tired of feeling as though they live in ‘the hood’. Clearly this stretch was an oversight during planning and poorly designed in my opinion, so what can be done to fix it?

Pinch points don’t work, the 40km/h speed limit seems to be more of a minimum speed recommendation for those who race up and down an uninterrupted stretch of road and the ridiculous amount of traffic on the weekend heading to and from the big box stores is becoming heavier.

We could move, but why should we be run out of our home because of poor planning?

We want a further reduction to 30km/h, we want speed-bumps installed (funny how the estate section gets a 30km/h speed limit and speed bumps), we want three and four-way stops.

Maybe all of these combined will assist in enforcing the speed limit and maybe it will deter the weekend warriors from even using the road to begin with. Or install photo radar cameras in three places along the Boulevard. I would wager a bet that they would fully pay for themselves within a month.

No more studies, no more talks, do something before someone else is killed or hurt. I can tell you from living here for 12 years it is only a matter of time.
