Junior action

There's no shortage of junior hockey in Okotoks on this frigid weekend.

The Okotoks Oilers take on some of the best in the North when the Spruce Grove Saints and Fort McMurray Oil Barons make their annual treks to the Pason Centennial Arena on Jan. 10-11, respectively, at 7 p.m. In HJHL action, the Okotoks Jr. B Bisons are home to the Medicine Hat Cubs on Jan. 12, a 1:15 p.m. start at the Murray Arena.

 

Knights Classic

Holy Trinity Academy host its annual senior boys basketball Knights Classic at the Okotoks school.

HTA opens its competition at 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 10 versus Calgary's Lord Beaverbrook Lords. The semifinals run on Jan. 11 at 10:15 a.m. and at noon followed by the bronze and gold medal matches at 5:15 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.

 

Looking Back

Stop by Okotoks’ museum to discover the cultural revolution of the Roaring Twenties. Learn what life was like in Okotoks in the 1920s in this unique exhibit. Donations are welcome.

Singing the Blues

Enjoy the talent of blues award-winner Tim Williams in an intimate performance in a downtown Okotoks café as Williams plays finger-style, slide guitar, mandolin and Hawaiian guitar, among others.

Discovering Young Talent

Take in some art from some of the region’s young talent in the Leighton Art Centre’s YouthWorks 2020: photo-synthesize exhibit featuring the works of students from four high schools, including the Alberta High School of Fine Arts and Oilfields High School. Meet the students face-to-face during an artists’ reception.

Through artists’ eyes

Explore nature and human behaviour through the eyes of Calgary area artists Verna Vogel and Eveline Kolijn. View their respective exhibitions, Fragile Planets and The Ocean Inside, which are on display Jan. 11 to Feb. 21.

Music with roots and feeling

Lethbridge roots, rock and pop singer/songwriter Leeroy Stagger will perform in the Beneath the Arch Concert Series with his five-piece band this weekend. He played previously for the concert series years back with Highway 3 Review, sharing the stage with John Wort Hannam, and Dave McCann.
