SHEEP RIVER ROAD RACE

The Big Rock Runners’ annual running showcase is bright and early Saturday morning in Okotoks.

The 41st annual Sheep River Road Race features 10k, 5k and 2k distances that loop mostly through the community’s scenic pathway system.

Where: Foothills Community Centre

When: Sept 14. 2k from 8:30 a.m. 10k/5k from 9:15 a.m.

 

TIME ISLAND

Step back in time with the Society of Tilt and Lance Cavalry’s Time Island Project. This two-day event features re-enactments, performances, demonstrations and games from various eras including Victorian, Viking, medieval and highlander. Enjoy rudimentary games, a marketplace, storytelling, jousting, archery, magicians and a variety of food. Check out okotokstoday.ca for more details.

LIVING FOREVER YOUNG

Those looking to live Forever Young, or at least sing along to the beloved Rod Stewart song, will head to Black Diamond and take in tribute artist Vic Vaga’s portrayal of the music legend. The internationally renowned look-alike will bring Stewart’s personality on stage with all of your favourite Rod Stewart songs.

When: Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m.

 

FLYING HIGH

Learn about birds that call Okotoks home in the Okotoks Green Living Workshop’s Discovering the Birds of Okotoks event. 

Find out which ones migrate south and which are native to Canada. Participants will venture into the river valley for bird watching so bring binoculars. This event is appropriate for ages eight and up.

Where: EPCOR Environmental Education Centre

When: Sept. 15 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

TREASURES TO DISCOVER

Discover some bargains at the tailgate flea market in Okotoks. Treasures include household items, antiques, clothing, crafts, handmade goods, vegetables, fruits and eggs. Food trucks will be on site in celebration of the last event of the season. Proceeds go to Sheep River Health Trust.

Where: All Through the House parking lot

When: Sept. 15 from noon to 4 pm.

 

RUN FOR A CAUSE

Lace up your running shoes in Okotoks’ annual Terry Fox Run.

Support Fox’s dream of a world without cancer in this 39th annual event featuring a 2, 5, and 10K run on foot or via bike, skateboard, scooter, stroller and wheelchair.

Where: Crystal Shores Beach House

When: Sept. 15, registration starts at 9:30 a.m. with the run starting at 11 a.m.

 

CELEBRATING ROYALTY

The Bar U Ranch National Historical Site is commemorating the Prince of Wales visit to the Foothills in 1919 with a documentation of his visit in the visitors centre complete with historical photos, timeline and artefacts, as well as a tour of the EP Ranch that the Prince owned from 1919 to 1962.
