Light Up in High Country
Christmas season gets off with a bang in the Black Diamond Light on Dec. 7.
The festivities kick off three kilometres to the west with the High Country SPCA Christmas Market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Flare n’ Derrick in Turner Valley.
The market will feature local crafts and delightful homemade lunches and snacks.
Christmas pet pictures are also available.
Light Up Black Diamond will begin at 5 p.m. with Santa getting a fire-truck ride to the Griffiths Seniors Centre where pictures with St. Nick will be available.
Other festivities include hay-rides, carolling and Christmas season bargains at the unique stores in Black Diamond.
The Christmas tree will be lit at 5:30 p.m. at the Black Diamond municipal building.

A Swinging Good Fairy Tale
Goodger Pink Family Theatre presents The Fellowship of the Swing, a pantomime spoof on fairy tales and the Lord of the Rings.
The play is geared for children but adults will find themselves having a good chuckle.

An Irish Christmas
The Big Rock Singers will celebrate their trip to Ireland and the holiday season with Christmas Joy — A Celtic Celebration. The concert will feature Irish classics such as the blessing May the Road Rise Up to Meet You and O Night Divine.
As well there will be guest performances by the Calgary Burns Club Singers and the Okotoks-based Possak Hampshire Academy of Irish Dance.
Some of the proceeds of the concert will go towards the Western Wheel Cares program.

A beauty of a play
The Alberta High School of Fine Arts presents the musical Beauty and the Beast, with the curtain rising Dec. 6.
The magical musical is based on the Disney animated classic which includes a cast of more than 50 including Belle, the Beast, some napkins, silverware and others.

Steel Country
Steve Pontmeier, a steel worker in the oil and gas industry, brings his unique country sound to Tribal Connection Market at 8 p.m. He is joined by Graham Ross on pedal steel guitar.

Sweet sounds at HTA
Take in the sounds of Christmas during the Foothills Music Society’s Winter Concert at the Raphael Theatre at Holy Trinity Academy. The concert features concert and jazz bands. Food Bank donations are gladly accepted.

Santa on skates
Strap on your skates at the Okotoks Recreation Centre for the Town’s annual Skate with Santa. Candy canes, cookies and hot chocolate add to the festive family fun, free to all. Everyone must wear helmets, including adults.

Junior Hockey
Okotoks junior hockey fans have ample options this weekend.
The front running Okotoks Jr. B Bisons kick off the offerings on Dec. 6 for an 8 p.m. date versus the Mountainview Colts at Murray Arena.
The Jr. A Oilers pick things up from there with consecutive home games. Okotoks hosts the Calgary Canucks on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. and then square off against the Drumheller Dragons for a rare afternoon tilt, a 4:15 p.m. contest on Dec. 8.
Roaring Game at Oilfields
The junior men and women's provincial qualifiers take place at Black Diamond's Oilfields Curling Club from Dec. 6-8.
There are four male and four female teams featuring Foothills area talent as the squads battle for one of three provincial berths on the line at the competition.
