Not need to throw something away when you can fix it.

The Town of Okotoks is hosting The Repair Café at the Recreation Centre on March 31 from 1 to 4 p.m. The café connect residents who have a variety of household items that need repairs with volunteer fixers who are wiling to share their skills and tools.

The café offers a solution to help residents who are unsure of how to do repairs, don’t have the space, or the right tools.

There is no cost.

When: March 31 at 1 p.m. Okotoks Recreation Centre

A walk back in time

Take a stroll along the Salute to Our Veterans Wall on Veterans Way Hill to learn some local love stories featuring those who served in the Second World War.

Historian Kathy Coutts will tell stories of war brides, love of family and love of one’s country. To attend the tour, meet Kathy Coutts at the benches halfway up the hill.

Masters of the strings

Tap your toes to the sound of the fiddle, mandolin, guitar and piano in the upcoming performance of the Prairie Mountain Fiddlers, featuring players from Calgary and the Foothills. These energetic string musicians play a range of different styles of music that influenced Canada’s fiddle scene over the centuries.

Singing the blues

Listen to international award winning blues singer/songwriter Tim Williams showcase his talent this weekend.

Williams is a 40-year veteran of the roots music scene in North America that began in the coffee-house scene of his native California in the mid 1960s. He was inspired by hillbilly and western swing music, settled in Canada in 1970 and is now a studio musician, producer and performer who plays at folk, blues and jazz festivals across Canada.

Southern showdown

The Okotoks Oilers and Brooks Bandits kick-off what's sure to be a terrific AJHL best-of-seven South Final this weekend. The No. 1 ranked Bandits host Game 1 and 2 on March 29-30 before the series switches to the Foothills for Game 3 and 4 on April 1-2, 7 p.m. starts at Pason Centennial Arena.

Both Okotoks and Brooks are undefeated on home-ice through the first two rounds of the post-season. The North final has the defending champion Spruce Grove Saints face-off against the Sherwood Park Crusaders.
