Kick up your heels for some upbeat Celtic tunes in Okotoks this weekend. Edmonton quintet Celtara puts its own spin on traditional Celtic music that comes from Ireland, Scotland, Denmark, Norway and beyond. Tickets can be purchased for $25 at okotoks.ca, the Okotoks Art Gallery or by calling 403-638-3204. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $30.

History lesson

Learn about Okotoks’ oldest school in the Okotoks Museum & Archives’ latest exhibit on Okotoks Upper School - now École Okotoks Junior High School. Located at the top of the hill at the end of a long staircase, this school educated young minds in the community from 1912 to today.

Look at class photos and read anecdotes of former staff and students in the early days on the second level of the museum.

Playoff action

What do the Okotoks Oilers have in store for an encore?

After pulling off a last-ditch comeback with three goals in the final 63 seconds and ultimately winning 6-5 in overtime, the Oilers and Canucks take to the ice in Game 2 of the AJHL opening round playoff series on March 8, a 7 p.m. puck-drop at Pason Centennial Arena.

At stake tonight is a stranglehold 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

Southern showdown

The race to the Midget AA provincials goes through Okotoks this weekend.

The host Okotoks Oilers take on the their five Southern Conference rivals in the South Central Alberta Hockey League playoff weekend. The round-robin format has the top-four teams advancing to the semifinal on March 10. Only the conference champion advances to the provincial tournament.

Okotoks opened the tournament in a 4-1 loss to Wheatland. The Oilers are back on the ice on March 8 to battle the Foothills Bisons at 11:45 a.m. at Pason Centennial Arena and square off with the Lethbridge Hurricanes on March 9 at 2:45 p.m.

The championship game goes March 10, 4 p.m. at Murray Arena.

Rivals meet in zone final

Finally they are going to meet and it couldn't come at a better time.

The Foothills Falcons and the Holy Trinity Academy Knights square off for the 4A South Central Senior boys basketball championship Friday at 6 p.m. The winner earns the right to go to provincials next weekend.

It is the first time the two teams — separated only by the Sheep River — have met this season.
