Oscar comes to Okotoks Cinemas

A chance to see the best that Oscar has to offer in the shorter film variety happens this weekend at the Okotoks Cinemas.

The Academy Awards nominated films for both short animation and live action will be shown Saturday and Sunday.

Chantal Beaulne, a graduate of Holy Trinity Academy, worked on the nominated animated film Animal Behaviour.

Tickets to watch the Oscar Nominated Shorts cost $10 per screening or $15 for both, and are available for purchase at okotoksfilmfestival.ca.

The screenings take place Feb. 16 with the animated shorts at 10 a.m. and live action at 4 p.m. The films will play again on the big screen Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. for the animated shorts and 9 p.m. for the live action.

A chocolate warmer

Olde Towne Okotoks’ new Hot Chocolate Festival will present nine varieties of the beloved wintertime beverage, with flavours ranging from raspberry to lavender, in downtown shops Feb. 14 to 24.

The festival has Okotoks area merchants providing their original twists to the beloved Canadian winter staple.

Venues include the British Chippy, Cactus Club Salon, Tribal Connection, Sweetgrass Deli, A Very Delightful Boutique, On Tap Oil & Vinegar, Shared Spaces, 94 Take the Cake and the Okotoks Museum & Archives.

Falcons take flight

The Falcons Classic Senior boys basketball tournament tips off Friday with the host team playing West Central high at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Comp. The Falcons have been playing good basketball as of late going into their home tournament. The finals are 8:15 p.m.  at the Comp on Saturday.

Tough test for Oilers

It’s a rematch of last year’s Alberta Junior Hockey League final when the Spruce Grove Saints visit the Pason Centennial Arena at 7 p.m.

The Oilers will then take on the Canmore Eagles who swoop into the Pason at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The Eagles will be looking for revenge after the Oilers drubbed them 7-3 on Tuesday.
