An artful walk

Elma Street and Olde Towne Okotoks merchants are inviting the public to the annual ARTSwalk event along Elma Street and McRae Street, featuring art demonstrations and displays in numerous mediums including fibre, glass, metal, wood, photography, paintings, poetry, music, housewares, drama and culinary at participating businesses.

The festivities are part of Alberta Culture Days in September.

A piece of history

An Okotoks landmark turns 20 this month — an event worthy of a safe party.

The Okotoks Museum and Archives celebrates two decades at its present location on North Railway Street.

To celebrate, a come-and-go open house will be held at the museum to encourage people to check out what’s new in the exhibits and see a video presentation of the house’s move down main street in July 2000. COVID-19 protocols will be in place at the event.

Fundraising drive for hospice

The second annual Rally4Hospice goes this weekend featuring plenty of cool vehicles driving around the Foothills starting at 1 p.m. at the Foothill Country Hospice.

The evening will end with a showing of Gone In 60 Seconds at the Sunset Drive-in near the High River Agriculture Grounds.

The event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the hospice.

Final Elks Market

The Okotoks Elks Club celebrates its final day of its inaugural farmers' market. Crafts, art and home-made food and vegetables will be a just a few of the items available.

When: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Opera in Okotoks

Calgary opera singers Barbara King and Kathleen Morrison will warm up their vocal cords in Big Rock Country in a dress rehearsal for their Divas Opera concert, which will take place at Calgary’s Marriott Hotel rooftop patio on Stephen Avenue Sept. 15.

The Okotoks concert is an outdoor event and will follow COVID-19 regulations.

They will perform a “divas medley” with songs from such pop artists as Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Adele, Madonna and Celine Dion. They will also sing separate arias from the opera Adriana Lecouvreur including Acerba Volutta and io son l'umile ancella and together will sing Ah, guarda sorella from Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte.

The dress rehearsal and concert will be accompanied by Okotoks’ Carlos Foggin on piano.

When: Sunday, 2 p.m.

Cost: $15. Tickets can be purchased here or at the door.
