A Winnipeg musician will be giving her audience in Turner Valley a sneak preview of her yet-to-be released album at a concert May 14 at Diamond Willow Artisan Retreat.
Born and raised in Calgary but now part of Winnipeg’s vital live music scene, Cara Luft is a founding member of Juno award winning folk music trio The Wailin’ Jennys.
Her upcoming CD will be her third solo effort and she will be providing a preview of the material at the Diamond Willow Retreat which is on the Cowboy Trail not far from Black Diamond and Turner Valley.
“I am going to playing a lot of the material from my upcoming new record as sort of a teaser,” she explained. “I am going to give people a sample of what they can expect from the CD. A lot of people actually during my last tour here and even when I was overseas in Europe before Christmas have been pre-ordering copies of the record.”
Luft said using funds from pre-orders to make the record itself is just the thing for artists like her.
“It’s really a cool thing because independent artists don’t have access to a record label’s resources any more,” she said. “So we’re always trying to find new ways to cover the costs of recording. It’s a much better idea than going to a bank to get a big loan.”
