Author J. Jill Robinson will be hosting a series of virtual workshops and is looking for other southern Alberta writers — or those wanting to become one — to join her.

The Virtual Ink! Writer in Residence program is a partnership between the Marigold, Chinook Arch and Shortgrass Library Systems. While Robinson’s home base is at the Canmore Public Library, all her sessions will be available here at the Okotoks Public Library via the RISE Network.

A total of five workshops will run on Saturdays (11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) starting April 2 with a program overview and Robinson reading samples of her work. Complete workshop details are available at www.okotokslibrary.ca.

Robinson will also be available for one-on-one consultations to discuss submitted manuscripts. Anyone interested in booking a time to meet with her privately can leave contact information at the library’s circulation desk where registration for any of the workshops can also be made. J. Jill Robinson is the author of “Residual Desire”, “Eggplant Wife”, “Lovely in Her Bones” and “Saltwater Trees”.

Those wanting to search their family trees should join the Genealogy Basics class being held on Saturday, March 26 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the library. An experienced genealogist will discuss sources for a variety of searches and provide answers to your questions. Share and discover your family connection. Participants can bring their own laptops with them to search the internet along with the instructor. To register, call the library at 403-938-2220.

Enjoy listening to audiobooks? Try an MP3 CD instead. An MP3 CD is a compact disc that contains digital audio files in the MP3 format. Many modern CD players, DVD players as well as one’s computer, support MP3 CDs. They are also iPod compatible.

The advantage of an audiobook on MP3 is that the entire book fits on one or two discs, as opposed to an audiobook on CD, which often have 10 or more discs. Visit the library to check out the wide selection of audiobooks on MP3 CD or place a hold on a specific title by visiting the online catalogue at www.tracpac.ab.ca.
