Playing many of the King’s classics as well as some of his own material, the Reverend Elvis will appear at Coyote Moon in Turner Valley Saturday night. Joining him for the show will be former Diamond Valley resident, and musician Dwain Sands.

A man of faith who is as comfortable belting out the rockabilly hit “Blue Suede Shoes” as one of his favourite hymns, the Reverend Elvis is not afraid to defy convention.

Reverend Elvis is teaming up with his long time music associate Dwain Sands for a show March 19 at Coyote Moon Cantina and Espresso Bar in Turner Valley.

The Reverend Elvis, Reverend Bruce Sheasby, was ordained as a minister in 1995 and he presides over the non-denominational Spiritual Community Church of the West in Calgary.

Highly inspired by the king of rock and roll Sheasby admitted he loves to perform and record music.

“I sing rock and roll and gospel tunes,” he said. “I just completed my second CD (‘Maybe it’s Time’). It was produced in Nashville with Elvis’ Imperials, who originally sang with Elvis, as my background singers. I also did a concert, the Elvis Gospel Tribute, at the Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary with the Imperials in September of last year.”

The Calgary gig raised money to support the city’s homeless and Sheasby explained he performs many chartable shows singing his Elvis Presley songs. These include his annual Blue Christmas concert he said raised funds for the Foothills Country Hospice Society.

Sands is a constant at these charity concerts often not only performing but also acting as music director. Sheasby said he has great respect for Sands who used to live in Turner Valley before moving to Innisfail.

“Dwain Sands is a sort of a local legend,” he said. “Dwain and I have a radio show we do out of High River on AM 1140 Saturdays at 2 p.m. It’s called Good News Radio. We play the music of a lot of local Alberta talent on it including artists from the Foothills area like Amos Garrett and The Travelling Mabels.”

The Coyote Moon show on Saturday will feature a solo classic country set from Sands who will also be playing piano for the Reverend Elvis.

Sheasby will be performing such Presley favourites as “Peace in the Valley”, “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and the aforementioned “Blue Suede Shoes”.

“It will be a real mixture of Elvis and original songs,” he said. “I have penned a few of my own tunes as well. One of my more rockabilly songs is called “I Am Who I Am” and it’s got a real Elvis style beat to it.”

Tickets for the 6 p.m. show Saturday are $15 each and available at Coyote Moon on Main Street in Turner Valley.
