For music goers yearning for some old fashioned rock and roll, your prayers are about to be answered.

Juno award winning artist Fred Eaglesmith is bringing his big sound to the Black Diamond Hotel on March 6.

The country and alternative artist will be playing a selection of songs from his 18 albums – including from his most recent disc, 2010’s rock-infused “Cha Cha Cha”.

Despite having achieved notoriety for several of his alternative country tracks, Eaglesmith described his show as more of a spectacle with something for everyone.

Unlike some artists who will just sit and play their songs, Eaglesmith emphasized his show is an experience for the eyes and ears.

“It’s a real show,” he said. “There’s comedy and rock and roll, they’ll have fun.”

With a loyal following, who lovingly brand themselves “Fredheads”, expected to come out and support the Canadian rocker, Eaglesmith made it clear he will be playing a wide arrangement of songs from his extensive discography.

“I play songs off all my records,” he said.

Having been on the road since mid-December, Eaglesmith and his band have played their way across the United States and will finally be returning north of the border this month.

Eaglesmith said they also treasure the opportunity to play in Alberta, a region he tries to visit once or twice a year.

Eaglesmith has had his songs played in numerous films, including those of Martin Scorsese and James Caan, and covered by musicians like Toby Keith. Now he headlines music festivals across North America, but the pinnacle of his musical experience remains the opportunity to tour.

After all, the interaction with the fans is what his music career is all about.

In order to keep things interesting for his loyal followers, Eaglesmith and his band make sure to play a different set at every tour stop.

Not only does that let the “Fredheads” hear some different songs, it also gives Eaglesmith and his band the chance to be creative.

“It’s a different show every night,” he said. “It keeps the band fresh.”

For those who haven’t experienced Eaglesmith’s sound, the country-rocker touches on a wide variety of styles and genres.

From soulful backing vocals to primal beats, the Ontario-native deals with themes of love, heartbreak and loneliness in a timeless way.

In “Cha Cha Cha” the rock sound is balanced with an infusion of ballads and mid-tempo numbers utilizing a number of instruments.

If one is looking to be entertained, look no further, said Eaglesmith.

“You’ll see, it’s pretty fun.”

Fred Eaglesmith will be appearing at the Black Diamond Hotel on Sunday, March 6.
