News from the Valley Neighbours' Club

The Legion barbecue for Canada Day was a fun time, and the fact I gathered up three friends for a bridge game after the festivities was a bonus. The FCSS sponsored Terrific Tuesday at the library on June 28 was an interesting afternoon.

The Legion barbecue for Canada Day was a fun time, and the fact I gathered up three friends for a bridge game after the festivities was a bonus.

The FCSS sponsored Terrific Tuesday at the library on June 28 was an interesting afternoon. Carmen Ditzler, manager of the Millarville Farmers’ Market, was the speaker. The market’s new hours of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday mornings should be a welcome change. Carmen said, “Come for breakfast, lunch, or both.” Local foods are served, some organic, but definitely fresh. Eighty per cent of the market is “make it, bake it or grow it in Alberta” and 20 per cent is the B.C. fruit truck.

Terrific Tuesdays are over for the summer months, but they have some interesting speakers lined up for the fall.

Mark your calendar for the Millarville Christ Church flower festival on July 23 and 24. Tea on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. will feature scones, homemade strawberry jam and whipped cream. Come and view the beautiful grounds and the lovely old log church and/or attend the special Sunday service at 11:30 a.m.

We have lots of new wildlife in our area. There is a pair of geese with three half grown gosling and a mother duck with nine ducklings on the pond and a pair of foxes with four kits in the vicinity. I can’t imagine a better place to live than our foothills.

Our deepest sympathy to the Anholt family on Shirley’s passing. She was the best neighbour and friend.
