Bert Church Theatre releases 2010 lineup

The 2010-2011 Bert Church Live Theatre season kicks off Sept. 18 with the first of three family series shows Splash and Boots.

The 2010-2011 Bert Church Live Theatre season kicks off Sept. 18 with the first of three family series shows Splash and Boots.

Splash and Boots is an internationally recognized duo who perform interactive sing-alongs, in a upbeat and family-friendly concert that children and adults can enjoy.

The family series continues on Oct. 13 with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and wraps up March 12 with the Opera for Young Audiences.

The three show series can be purchased as a package, with tickets to each event for $33 dollars for adults and $31 for children.

The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra has been around since 1955, and has been a staple of the Bert Church lineup for a number of years.

“(That show) gives our community the opportunity to see a world class symphony orchestra,” said the Bert Church Theatre’s Jennifer Cormier. “This big, massive orchestra just fills the theatre…it’s a very intimate concert.”

The family series only scratches the surface of the lineup, as a number of new acts will be mixed in with some returning acts running from this week until mid-April.

“We are anticipating a larger number of sellouts this season,” said Cormier. “We are working to book the type of acts that people want to see and I think it’s working, because of the attendance numbers.”

Average attendance has been steadily climbing over the past two seasons, with the median show turnout jumping from 200 in 2008 to 250 last season.

“We present the same quality of shows that is found in places like the Epcor Centre and the Jack Singer, except cheaper, you don’t have to drive into the city and find parking and all that,” Cormier said.

One new feature the theatre is offering this year is online ticket purchase and seat reservations at the Bert Church Theatre website.

“It’s being really well received,” said Cormier.

“The customer can go online, see a seating chart and see which seats have been sold. They then choose the exact seat they want, click on them to complete the purchase.”

Cormier says that tickets have already started to sell for shows all throughout the season.
