Bistro Provence - Okotoks

Bistro Provence - Okotoks

Where can you go to have an intimate fine dining experience in a building whose history and significance has been lovingly preserved? At Bistro Provence 1882!

“Located inside the original Sheep Creek Post Office in Okotoks, AB, Bistro Provence 1882 is a casual restaurant serving delightful European specialties for lunch and dinner,” explains Ed Povhe. “We only provide one seating per table for each evening service; we want our guests to enjoy their full dining experience and ensure they never feel rushed. We believe this adds to the entire dining experience and reflects the European experience of how you are supposed to eat.”

Recently, Ed and his wife and business partner, Marcella, opened their doors to welcome Brad and Maria and their amazing French 50 Bakery to run alongside the Bistro. The couple decided to finally open a storefront after faithfully selling their delicious bread at Farmers Markets. Approaching the Bistro, Brad asked if they would be open to renting out and sharing the building to house French 50 Bakery. The bakery and its cozy patio now sit alongside the Bistro, where Brad and Maria serve delicious, freshly baked goods with a tasty coffee. With reviews like "everything they sell is simply delicious,” and “true European flavor at its best,” and “a beautiful place with excellent customer service,” it's clear that this partnership is a match made in European heaven.

Hard Knox Brewery

Hard Knox Brewery

Siblings Pamela and Cory made the leap into craft brewing during the economic downturn of 2016, so it really was the “hard knock life” that set in motion Hard Knox™ Brewery, which opened in 2018 and won an Alberta Beer Award within 10 months of the launch.

“We offer many styles of craft beer using local hand-harvested specialty ingredients to create beers such as blonde ales, Belgium wheats, browns, and porters – plus specialty brews for each season,” says Pamela Lyken. “Our award-winning beers are unpasteurized and do not have preservatives. There is a style for every palate, even wine drinkers!”

You can enjoy a beer inside or outdoors. Lyken explains, “You can enjoy a cozy atmosphere inside or bring a picnic to our outdoor beer gardens, which allows you to bring your whole family – including your dog.” The outdoor garden also has a selection of games.

“Hard Knox is truly a destination to experience exceptional beers while enjoying time with family and friends,” Lyken concludes.

The brewery has just celebrated its first anniversary. Learn why it’s a local favourite by visiting 445, 1 Avenue NE, Black Diamond, AB, or online at You’ll also find them on Facebook, and Twitter @HardKnoxBrewery, and Instagram @hardknoxbrewery.
