Okotoks area COVID-19 update

Following is an update for active COVID-19 cases in the Okotoks area as of 4 p.m. on June 14 according to Alberta government statistics.

There were a total of 115 new cases identified in the province over the past 24 hours bringing the total of active cases in Alberta to 3,089.

Currently, there are 270 patients hospitalized with COVID, 73 of whom are in ICU.

Premier Jason Kenney announced his reopening plan during a May 26 press conference, introducing a three step province-wide plan towards eased restrictions based on hospitalizations numbers and the percentage of vaccinations among the eligible population.

Step 2 of Alberta's Open for Summer Plan opened on June 10.

Vaccine rollout

The Province announced 3,412,751 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as of June 13. To date, 792,356 Albertans have been fully immunized with two doses, representing 20.8 per cent of the eligible population. Thus far, 68.8 per cent of eligible Albertans have received at least one dose as well as 58.6 per cent of the population.

Regional vaccine data available from the province indicates that in the Okotoks-Priddis region 58.5 per cent of the population (67.7 of the 12+ eligible population) has received at least one dose of the vaccine, in the High River region that number is 54.5 per cent (62.4 of the 12+ eligible population) and in Black Diamond the figure is at 52.5 per cent (60.1 of the 12+ eligible population).

As of May 10, all Albertans born in 2009 or earlier are eligible to book for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Premier Kenney introduced the plan for second doses of the vaccine to the general population with those who received their first dose in March eligible to book a second dose as of June 1 and as of June 10 those who received a first dose in April are eligible for a second shot. Those who received the first shot in May can book a second shot as of June 28. 

The Open for Summer vaccine lottery was introduced on June 14 with three different draws for $1 million dollar prizes. All Alberta residents 18+ who have had at least one dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine can enter now for a chance to win $1 million this July. Get your second dose and you will have two more chances to win in August and September.

Registration for the first draw closes one week after 70 per cent of eligible Albertans have had their first dose.
