Okotoks area COVID-19 update

Covid-19

Following is an update for active COVID-19 cases in the Okotoks area as of 4 p.m. on May 26 according to Alberta government statistics.

Town of Okotoks  — 88

Foothills County — 43

High River — 36

There were a total of 390 new cases identified in the province over the past 24 hours bringing the total of active cases in Alberta to 10,953, 39.1 per cent of which are variants of concern.

Currently, there are 548 patients hospitalized with COVID, 157 of whom are in ICU.

Province-wide restrictions were put in place earlier in the month to stop the spike and combat the rising active case count and hospitalization numbers.

Premier Jason Kenney announced his reopening plan during a May 26 press conference, introducing a three step province-wide plan towards eased restrictions based on hospitalizations numbers and the percentage of vaccinations amongst the eligible population. Step 1 of Alberta's Open for Summer Plan is set to begin on June 1.

Vaccine rollout

The Province announced 2,578,577 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as of May 25. To date, 357,963 Albertans have been fully immunized with two doses, representing 8 per cent of the population. Thus far, 49.7 per cent of Albertans have received at least one dose. Roughly 58 per cent of those eligible for a vaccine in the province have received at least one dose.

Regional vaccine data now available from the province indicates that in the Okotoks-Priddis region 48.8 per cent of the population has received at least one dose of the vaccine, in High River that number is 46.5 per cent and in Black Diamond the figure is at 45.8 per cent.

As of May 10, all Albertans born in 2009 or earlier are eligible to book for the COVID-19 vaccine.
