Okotoks area COVID-19 update

Covid-19

Following is an update for active COVID-19 cases in the Okotoks area as of 4 p.m. on May 24 according to Alberta government statistics.

Town of Okotoks  — 115

Foothills County — 58

High River — 50

There were a total of 457 new cases identified in the province over the past 24 hours bringing the total of active cases in Alberta to 13,608, 37.4 per cent of which are variants of concern.

Currently, there are 569 patients hospitalized with COVID, 161 of whom are in ICU.

Province wide restrictions were put in place to combat the rising active case count and hospitalization numbers. High case regions — those with at least 50 cases per 100,000 people, and at least 30 active cases — face even more stringent measures that will remain in place for at least three weeks. An update from the province stated students are returning to in-class learning on May 25, except those in the Wood Buffalo region.

The Province announced 2,532,143 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as of May 23. To date, 353,292 Albertans have been fully immunized with two doses, representing 7.9 per cent of the population. Thus far, 48.7 per cent of Albertans have received at least one dose.

Regional vaccine data now available from the province indicates that in the Okotoks-Priddis region 47.6 per cent of the population has received at least one dose of the vaccine, in High River that number is 45.7 per cent and in Black Diamond the figure is at 45.3 per cent.

As of May 10, all Albertans born in 2009 or earlier are eligible to book for the COVID-19 vaccine.
