The Okotoks Dawgs are stepping up to the plate for the Okotoks Food Bank.

The defending Western Canadian Baseball League champions announced they will be hosting a food drive in partnership with the Okotoks Food Bank and West Direct Express Ltd. on May 9 at the Seaman Stadium parking lot, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To keep everyone safe amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the food drive will be done in a no-contact drive-thru set-up to ensure physical distancing measures remain in place. Moreover, Dawgs staff members accepting donations will be wearing protective equipment, masks and gloves, and unload the non-perishable items right out of the trunk of vehicles. The safety measures will restrict one vehicle in the drop-off area at a time.

"The Dawgs would like to strongly encourage anyone who is in a position to contribute to stop by and donate whatever you possibly can," the team said in the April 29 press release. "Even if it is just one canned item, it adds up quickly and we can make an impact in helping our community together."
