Okotoks-based Mullen Group to buy ContainerWorld

The deal will see Mullen Group acquire B.C. logistics company by the second quarter for additional annual revenue of $150 million.

Okotoks-based Mullen Group will be expanding its operations further nationwide through its acquisition of ContainerWorld.

ContainerWorld Forwarding Services, a logistics company specializing in alcohol and hospitality, is headquartered in Richmond, B.C.

"Globally, alcoholic beverages is a trillion-dollar industry and here in Canada, it is a multi-billion dollar industry that is expected to grow as the Canadian population grows," said Mullen Group chair and senior executive officer Murray K. Mullen in a statement.

"ContainerWorld is a leading integrated logistics provider to international and domestic wine, beer and spirits producers that are looking for a safe and reliable customs bonded service provider in Canada."

ContainerWorld, which was founded in 1993, "has grown to be one of the largest alcoholic beverage logistics companies in Canada" according to Mullen.

"This acquisition further expands our operations in the provinces of British Columbia and Ontario, home to 50 per cent of Canada's population, and will add over one million square feet of warehousing space to Mullen Group."

The financial terms of the deal are not yet available, but the payoff of the deal is expected to be approximately $150 million in annual revenue through ContainerWorld operations.

The deal, announced Jan. 17, is set to close in the second quarter.
