RCMP investigating homicide on Îyârhe Nakoda First Nation

Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 55-year-old man that occurred on Îyârhe (Stoney) Nakoda First Nation last month as a homicide.

ÎYÂRHE NAKODA – Police have ruled the suspicious death of a 55-year-old man that occurred on Îyârhe (Stoney) Nakoda First Nation as a homicide.

RCMP Major Crimes continues to investigate the incident and no further details have been released. 

An autopsy conducted last month after the man was discovered determined the cause of death.

"An autopsy was completed on Sept. 11, 2023, at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary," said Cpl. Gina Slaney, RCMP medial relations officer, in a press release. "The manner of death was determined to be a homicide. The investigation continues."

On Sept. 8, around 7 a.m., Stoney Nakoda RCMP were called to a residence on the First Nation in response to a disturbance. It was upon arrival that officers located the deceased male.
