Almost three months after the incident, Lac La Biche RCMP are asking the public for information on a large-scale copper wire theft.
On Monday, Nov. 7, RCMP released information about their ongoing investigation into a theft of copper wire from the Calnash Trucking yard in the Sentinel Industrial Park west of the Lac La Biche hamlet. Police say the theft occurred sometime between the night of Aug. 15 and the morning of Aug. 16.
Images supplied by the RCMP show that at least some of the wire was cut directly from equipment stored in the yard.
Provincial RCMP officials were contacted shortly after Monday afternoon's news release went out, but could provide little further when it came to details on the original file.
Lac La Biche RCMP say the unknown suspect(s) stole between $500,000 and $750,000 worth of copper wire from the location.
Monday's media release was the first one released by police since the incident.
Anyone with information about the theft or the stolen material is urged to contact the local RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. Information leading to an arrest is eligible for a reward through the Crime Stoppers program.
