The Alberta NDP is hosting an online town hall for those opposed to the UCP's proposal to leave the Canada Pension Plan.
Following a huge response to its own poll on whether Albertans want to leave the Canada Pension Plan, the Alberta NDP is hosting an online town hall on the matter.
“Albertans have been reaching out by the tens of thousands," said Shannon Phillips, Alberta NDP Critic for Finance, Pensions and Insurance, adding despite the UCP government promising that an engagement committee chaired by former Finance Minister Jim Dinning would seek to hear from Albertans “starting in October,” no sessions have been announced.
“We will be hosting an online town hall with Albertans who don’t support Danielle Smith gambling with their retirement security,” Phillips said. “The UCP may be too afraid to hear directly from people about this critical issue, but we’re not.”
Twenty-three thousand Albertans have taken the Alberta NDP’s survey on Smith’s plan to leave the Canada Pension Plan at AlbertasFuture.ca. The survey remains open.
The online town hall will be held on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. and hosted by Phillips and Samir Kayande, Alberta NDP Finance Critic for Fiscal Responsibility.
“The Canada Pension Plan offers world-renowned retirement security for Albertans and Canadians," Kayande said.
Albertans wanting to attend the online town hall are encouraged to register in advance at AlbertasFuture.ca.
