BONNYVILLE – An investigation remains ongoing in relation to a break and enter of a residential garage and the attempted theft of a utility task vehicle (UTV) that resulted in extensive property damage on Aug. 4.
The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. in the area of 47 Avenue and 41A Street in the Town of Bonnyville.
An unknown suspect broke into the residential garage through the man-door, then drove through the overhead garage door with the property owner’s side-by-side vehicle, causing extensive damage to garage and the UTV.
In the process, the culprit also caused damage to the victim’s fence and adjacent utility boxes. The UTV was left just metres away from where it was stolen, upside down and in a significantly damaged state.
Bonnyville RCMP Sgt. Douglas Macfarland confirmed to Lakeland This Week that the incident is still under investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.
Police are gathering security footage from nearby residents to assist in their investigation.
To fix the damage caused to the garage doors and fence it will cost anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000, according to the property owner.
If the UTV is written off due to the extensive damage, the cost to replace it will be around $35,000.
