RCMP confirmed that a four-year-old boy found in medical distress following a drowning incident in Kings Heights on Oct. 3, has succumbed to his injuries.

The child passed away in hospital on Oct. 15, stated the RCMP in a release on Tuesday.

Airdrie RCMP and EMS empathize with the family, bystanders, and community in this tragic loss of life, the release said.

Local police received a complaint of a missing four-year-old child in the Kings Heights neighbourhood at 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 5. Shortly after receiving this call, RCMP received a call of a child found in medical distress.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that bystanders had removed the child from a neighborhood pond, and had administered medical care until EMS arrived. EMS transported the child via ground ambulance to a Calgary hospital.

According to a GoFundMe page, the child was taken to the Children’s Hospital in critical condition where he remained in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

The RCMP said it received exceptional community co-operation in this investigation and are kindly asking everyone to be mindful of the privacy of the family during this difficult time.

According to Alberta Health Services, it is important to watch children closely outdoors, especially where wells, open post-holes, and irrigation canals or drainage ditches are nearby. Fill holes and install fences or other barriers to protect your child. Make sure that pools are fenced off and have covers that lock.

It is also important, says AHS, to not let a child out of your sight while you are doing yard work or other outdoor activities.

Funds collected through the family's GoFundMe page will help with funeral costs, and support for the family in this incredibly difficult time.
