Ryan Brothers Custom Homes built its way to gold in this year's Western Wheel Readers' Choice Awards.

Cody Ryan said being recognized in the homebuilder category was a pleasant surprise that validates the hard work they put into caring about the client and the finished product.

The father-and-son team serve the Foothills region, as well as B.C.’s Kootenays, specializing in residential home construction.

Two brothers, Terry and Blair Ryan, formed the company and began building acreage homes. When Blair moved away, there was an opportunity for Terry’s son, Cody, to work alongside his dad.

A finishing carpenter by trade, Cody came aboard about eight years ago. This saw the company begin to build more single-family homes in Black Diamond, with fewer acreage builds.

“We’re fully custom,” he said. “You come to us with an idea, and we’ll take you through the design process, through construction and completion.”

Cody said the company lives by several simple philosophies, and he believes integrity goes a long way.

“The one thing that someone can’t take away from you is your integrity, that has to be given away. So, we live pretty strongly by that.”

The company also prides itself on communication and a commitment to make right any mistakes along the way.

“If you do that, and you communicate properly with clients, it can go a long way,” Cody said.  “Most of the time, in building, it’s a lack of communication that is a big frustration for clients.”

They also strive to treat a client's home like they would their own.

“If it’s not acceptable in ours, it’s not acceptable in yours,” he said.

Their goal after every build is to shake the client's hand and be proud of a job well done.

Cody said they get a lot of referrals, and that’s “the biggest compliment you can get.”

“We've worked really hard to get that good name.”

Cody plans to continue building on the company's 50 years of experience and said he would love to someday pass the business on to his children.

He realizes he wouldn’t be where he is today without the benefit of learning from his dad's experience in the industry.

“I want to be able to share that with my kids if possible.”
